Are Gemstone Meanings Real?

Since the dawn of history, man has been deeply interested in gemstones and has viewed them as having supernatural properties. Why are we so enthralled by them? Perhaps it’s their deep, intense, concentrated color, that suggests a highly concentrated mass of nature’s energy. Our subconscious mind processes many kinds of subtle information that we are unaware of, and for some reason man has always, seen gemstones as a portal to a greater, infinite power and wisdom.

So are they really a doorway to a higher power, or do we just enjoy imagining that? This is something we can’t likely argue logically or prove, because energy doesn’t always flow in predictable ways. But in any case, I think that even if they don’t hold any unseen powers, it’s still possible for them to have a big impact on us. How so, you ask?Through their symbolism that represents our hopes and ambitions in life.

Here is what I mean. I am a business owner, and at the time when I was preparing for the business’s launch my partner gave me a gift, a tiger’s eye gemstone. Tiger eye gems are believed to help you achieve your goalsand deliver wealth and success to you. Every day I would stare at the gem, focused on it, vividly pictured the outcomes I desired, and got to work with lazer sharp focus. Did the gemstone do it, or did I do it? I lean towards thinking that I caused it, but symbols do carry extraodinary inspirational power, as students of religions and faiths know. I could be skeptical and disbelieve in gemstones as meaningful, but whether they are directly influencing my behaviour or not, I appreciate their symbolic meaning and the inspiration they provide anyway.

Gemstone collecting is a very rewarding hobby to take up, because the endless variety of gemstones with differing meanings offers us the chance to choose gems that reflect our values. When I look into which gemstones to buy, I think about my life and my current physical, mental and spiritual state, and I choose gems that will help me acheive my current goals. If I am feeling trapped by jealous and envious feelings, maybe I’ll buy a peridot piece,because peridot is thought to get rid of feelings of jealousy, anger, and rivalry. Even if the peridot happened to be a fake one and not real, I am sure I would still move in a direction away from jealousy because buying the stone was an expression of my commitment to change that element of my life.

Gemstones might not have the power to control humans, but they do draw of human beings’ intrinsic power. I believe that there value lies in that ability, and it is a positive thing. We wouldn’t appreciate change in our lives if they weren’t the results of our own struggle, so it is good that gems only provide us with the inspiration but we have to do the rest.
